On the other hand, he makes a point of calling out a grieving widow (okay, a widow once removed) in front of what appears to be 60 people for what he believes is an abuse of her “widow privileges,” taking both her as her supposedly exaggerated grief at taking away one of his precious golf lessons and also the opportunity to enjoy a lobster lunch. On the one hand, Larry can’t be bothered to vote. The exploration of Larry’s foolish principles is a well-trodden path for Control your enthusiasm and it is certainly the thorniest sticking point of “Irma Kostroski”, at least by showing how skewed his principles always seem to be. Would things have turned out differently for Jimmy Mayhew (and all those future Santa Monica chicken coop owners) if Larry and his presumably Republican counterpart had stuck around to cast their votes? The actual math doesn’t seem to back it up, but the election results would never stop Larry from giving up his civic duty. That algebra makes perfect sense in Larry’s twisted mind, so natural, in the equally twisted setup punchline Bizarro world of CurbThat means Mayhew’s election is destined to be the most historically significant pager of all, with Mayhew’s inevitable loss being attributed to a single vote. To give him credit, not necessarily because he has to, Larry takes an opposition vote with him to level things up. (Maybe it’s a crush on rejection? We’ll get to that.) Not that Larry’s sudden political boom really matters he thinks that waiting in a long line to vote for Mayhew is ultimately too much to ask and he decides to skip the election altogether.

door goes for Mayhew for reasons that never really solidify by the end of the episode.

This week’s episode, titled “Irma Kostroski,” sees at least 50% of Santa Monica voters pin their hopes on optimistic mayoral candidate Jimmy Mayhew (Terrell Clayton) - a number that seemingly includes Larry himself, who goes door-to-door. Maybe this is the reason Control your enthusiasm don’t let Larry dabble too much in politics.
